We believe that many more children could be achieving highly.
There’s a gap between success as defined by school systems and what society, the workplace and the individual seem to require.
Eighty two percent of UK schools are now classed as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, yet there is evidence that schools are not producing children with the right skills to be college ready, work ready and life ready.
A new approach is required so that schools can make additional improvements and ‘unleash greatness’. And ambitious schools across the world are looking to increase their performance, look beyond their own geography and become world beating.
High Performance Learning is an advanced pedagogy that helps schools become world class through systematically developing superior cognitive performance in all students. Its proven framework and methodology, when applied by good schools, leads to increasingly strong academic results; well motivated, engaged and life-ready students; and happier parents.
Based on research from across cognitive psychology, gifted education and neuro-science, and on 30 years of practical experience of educators in over 16 countries, the philosophy of High Performance Learning starts from the following key principles:
High performance is an attainable target for everyone..
We can systematically teach students how to be ‘intelligent’ and how to succeed in school.
World class schools produce students that are intellectually and socially confident, work-place and life-ready with a global outlook and a concern for others.
There are 20 generic characteristics which students need to develop if they are to be high performers in cognitive domains (ACPs) and 10 values, attitudes and attributes (VAAs) that develop the wider learner dispositions needed for cognitive and lifetime success.
Schools can only become world class by fostering a professional community of practice among their educators – no quick-fix, governance model, instructional technique or technology can substitute for this.
The High Performance Learning Framework
High Performance Learning provides a framework which school leaders can use to transform learning – actively involving students and their parents in the learning journey and presenting schooling as a quest for cognitive success. The ACPs and VAAs provide a clear structure for student development within each school’s individual vision, context and curriculum. The approach reinforces the professionalism of classroom teachers, while addressing what can be done at the whole-school level to optimise learning opportunities, individual support and personal motivation.
Using this approach has been proven to significantly enhance overall student outcomes and at the same time will help students from disadvantaged backgrounds by raising expectations of what they can achieve and providing a clear, manageable and transparent framework to secure strong results.
